Maria Grigoriou studied in Vakalo school of Arts and in the West Surrey College of Art and Design. She is member of AFI group.
Having been trained in art and in the art of weaving, she slowly sought new methods to craft her work, using various media. For the last 15 years her work has taken two directions.
The one still involves textiles and weaving but has now become an increasingly conceptual method. She applies old traditional textile techniques to non traditional materials such as paper and bring these pieces into a contemporary context.
The other is sculptural, using iron wire the way one would use a pencil to draw a continuous line. Wherever she needs a thicker line she hammers the wire on the anvil.
“From the idea to the execution, I enjoy the process like an adventurous walkway. The best journeys have been made within the walls of my studio.”
